SECOND TEXTRON SYSTEMS FACILITY GOES LIVE WITH FLEXNET™ DEPLOYMENT
Defense Contractor to Use Apriso’s Software to Track Employee Attendance, Labor and Product History
(Long Beach, CA - October 17, 2005) - Apriso® Corporation, the global leader in real-time solutions for supply network operations, has completed an installation of its flagship product, FlexNet™, for Textron Systems at its HR Textron Santa Clarita, Calif. facilities (NYSE:TXT), a provider of technology solutions and products to the global aerospace and defense industries. The software system, which went on line in April, extends the manufacturing, quality assurance and labor-tracking capabilities of the manufacturer’s ERP system down to the shop floor, further enhancing enterprise-wide efficiency and visibility.
The Santa Clarita deployment is the second of three site installations Apriso is providing for the aerospace and defense contractor. The first, at Textron Systems’ Wilmington, Mass. campus, was completed in April 2004. A third installation, at the company’s New Orleans facility, began in August.
Prior to the FlexNet implementation, Textron Systems used disparate point solutions at its Wilmington and Santa Clarita facilities to automate shop floor operations, track labor, and control quality and production. Apriso replaced many systems with a single FlexNet deployment, thereby lowering the company’s software licensing and maintenance costs, and freeing up its information technology resources for other initiatives.

The need for real-time visibility of labor and production processes is a requirement common to most manufacturers, particularly defense contractors. FlexNet delivers real-time visibility of plant and warehouse operations by interfacing with the latest mobile, wireless, bar code and human-machine integration technology, eliminating the need for paper pick lists, shop packets, reporting paperwork and dispatch lists. The software promotes full collaboration between a manufacturer’s internal resources and its customers, suppliers and business partners, enabling data flow between the plant floor, warehouse and quality control areas with the company’s ERP system.
The complexities of Textron Systems’ time and attendance reporting requirements was another critical need FlexNet helped meet. FlexNet’s Time & Labor module is user-configurable and rules-based, and easily tailored to meet Textron Systems’ specific requirements. Every employee – from C-level executives to machine operators – records his or her time in the system.
Government and defense contractors face increasing pressures to adhere to such Department of Defense requirements as time and shop floor labor tracking, quality control standards, part traceability (including the new UID standards) and product genealogy reporting. FlexNet extends the capabilities of most major ERP systems to help meet those requirements. Using the software, manufacturers can readily generate reports stating a product’s parts, as-built, quality, resource and machine histories – information essential to identifying product flaws and service issues, as well as managing recall campaigns and researching warranty information.
Textron Systems selected FlexNet as its manufacturing execution standard across all business areas. Their FlexNet deployment included Production, Quality and Labor modules. The project team included Apriso, Deloitte and Textron Systems personnel, who collaborated throughout the project lifecycle to implement the solution at the Santa Clarita facility.
