Apriso Announces FlexNet Integration with PLM

Enhancing the Value of Product Lifecycle Management

Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions seem like a great idea — in support of the goal of rapid new product introduction. PLM lets organizations build a consistent product according to the product’s design specifications, with the result being improved product yield and enhanced product consistency.

Despite this quest to link product design, process design, process planning, and manufacturing, the ultimate integration of ‘as planned’ and ‘as built’ specs within PLM has typically not been achieved — until now.

Closing Critical Gaps of Planned vs. Actual Production
Apriso Operations Execution Solution is critical in closing the inevitable gaps between simulation and reality on the shop floor. As production ramps up, operations information is critical in adjusting processes. With FlexNet, process results can be fed back to engineering to optimize processes, insuring deviations do not occur.

FlexNet can play a critical role in monitoring and reporting to PLM what actually occurred during the production of the product. For closed-loop PLM to be effectively realized, the capture of “as-built” product information is a requirement. “As-builts” not only have information about what specific parts the product has, but also assists in tracking and tracing information required to record the actual steps taken in production, as well as the products associated monitoring and quality control information.

The FlexNet platform consists of applications designed to execute production, quality, labor, maintenance, warehousing, and supply chain visibility activities, while at the same time building a history of these actions, all centrally built within a single, unified data infrastructure.

Defining PLM

Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) is an integrated, information-driven approach comprised of people, processes/ practices, and technology to all aspects of a product's life, from its design through manufacture, deployment and maintenance—culminating in the product's removal from service and final disposal. By trading product information for wasted time, energy, and material across the entire organization and into the supply chain, PLM drives the next generation of lean thinking.
